APRICOT KERNEL OIL

Light nourishing for the skin.
Good for dry, ageing or sensitive skin.

AVOCADO OIL

Very dark green when unrefined, pale green when refined. Strong odour
when unrefined. Rich thick nourishing and highly penetrating. Especially
good for dry or ageing skin. Good for blending. Containing Vit e and A
good for preserving and skin problems. Safe for those with wheat allergies.
Generally used in 5% dilution as it is a thick oil.

BORAGE

Rich in G.L.A (21%). This is good for dry mature skins or to treat certain
skin disorders. Often mixed with other carriers. Similar to evening primrose
oil. Keep refrigerated.

CAMELIA

An infusion of camelia flowers in sunflower oil. Light fine, especially
good for facial massage.

CALENDULA (MARIGOLD)

An infusion of calendula flowers in sunflower oil. Used
for its healing properties e.g. reduces inflammation, chilblains, rheumatism
and renews body tissue. Petals contain carotene. Quite expensive so mix
with another carrier oil. Also used for the following conditions: Circulatory
(varicose veins), Digestive (stomach ulcers), Menstrual (pains), Muscular
(rheumatic), nervous (anxiety), Skin (burns). May have natural vit E added
to prolong shelf life.

COCONUT

Light rich and easily absorbed. Good for body and head and baths as does
not leave ‘grease’ mark around the bath or stain clothing. May solidify
when cold. Usually refined. If in a liquid state (the wax has been removed).

EVENING PRIMROSE

Pale yellow, clear, fine textured excellent source of Gamma lindeic acid
(10%) and vitamins. Used for pmt, dry skin conditions e.g. Eczema, multiple
sclerosis, inflammatory skin conditions, arthritis, heart disease. Expensive
usually used in 5-10% concentration. Keep refrigerated. Can also be taken
internally.

GRAPESEED OIL

Clear yellow to pale green, fine without any odour. Inexpensive but not
highly penetrative. When blending, mix with avocado to help penetration.
Mix with wheat germ and jojoba to extend the shelf life of blends. Popular
all round oil for aromatherapists. Usually refined. It is unstable and
goes rancid quickly.

HAZELNUT

Medium texture, rich pale colour with slight nutty odour. Penetrating
oil add 5% to other carriers to speed penetration good if the person has
a lot of adipose tissue.

JOJOBA

A liquid wax from the jojoba bean. Very fine texture with quick power
of penetration, so can be used successfully on both oily and dry skin.
It is said to dissolve embedded sebum and makes the hair and scalp acidic,
slowing down the rate of secretion of sebum. Can be used on sensitive
and allergic skin types also eczema. Unfortunately very expensive. Good
for both face and body massage. Highly emollient and protective. used
in 10% dilution when blending solidifies when cold. A good life span.

MACADAMIA

Rich, light textured softens and protects skin and is easily absorbed.
Ideal for face and body. May solidify in cold weather due to natural waxes.
May have natural vit e to prolong shelf life.

OLIVE

Strong, dark green if unrefined, strong aroma, which can be over powering.
Rich in nutrients and healing. Rarely used due to its aroma. A stable
oil.

PEACH KERNEL

A light, fine textured oil and yet nourishing, so ideal for facial skin.
Good for inflammation. Has quite a good shelf life. Good for dry or ageing
skin and sensitive skin. Similar to almond and apricot in properties.

ROSE HIP

Light easily penetrating. Excellent for scar tissue, burns, mature and
dehydrated skin. Often blended with another carrier oil.

SESAME

Light textured oil yet not highly penetrating. Used in suntanning products
since it absorbs UV rays thus shielding the skin. Also helps to improve
elasticity of the skin. Washes easily out of clothes, sheets etc. Do not
use as a suntan oil

SOYA BEAN

Light texture and very good shelf life. Ideal for body massage and bath
oils. Very inexpensive so gool for retailing.

ST JOHNS WORT

An infusion of St Johns Wort herb in sunflower oil. Deep ruby red colour
with excellent healing properties. Used on burns, scar tissue and skin
damage. Use with caution as it is photosensitising (reacts to sunlight).

SUNFLOWER

Light, yellow in colour, inexpensive, ideal for body massage and bath
oils. Similar to Soya bean oil. Carrot rich orange/red in colour. Rich
in vit A (beta-carotene). Good for skin tone and elasticity, healing and
soothing, often used on scar tissue, Usually blended with another carrier
as it can stain.

SWEET ALMOND

Pale yellow with characteristic nutty smell. Softening and emollient and
nutritive qualities. Fine yet rich feeding oil suitable for facial and
body skin. Can soothe irritations and superficial inflammation. Very occasionally
has been known to cause an allergic reaction. (Glycerides of oleic, linoleic
and palmitic acids). A stable oil.

WHEATGERM

Yellow/orange brown colour rather pungent odour. Rich textured oil. good
for very dry skin. Mature and cracked skins. Helps scar tissue and streatch
marks (25% dilution) probably due to its vitamin E content. Very slow
rancidity rate and if added to other vegetable oils in 5-10% concentration,
it will slow down their oxidation rate due to Vit .E which is a natural
anti oxidant. Can be too rich and heavy and sticky hindering massage and
the odour over powering. Best used in baths or skin prepearations. Can
irritate skins of those with a wheat allergy. do not use at all if Wheat
allergie is anaphylaxis (swelling in the mouth die). Wheat intolerance
unable to digest wheat Cocliac disease. allergy to gluten (wheat and cereals)
dairy allergy anaphylaxis Dairy intolerance unable to digest (lactose
sugar in milk) do not use nut oils if a nut allery.
